Microsoft will officially end support for the Windows Server 2012 on October 2023, and therefore, ITS will migrate the KMS authentication and activation services to the Windows 2022 server on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
Benefit:
Migrating the KMS services to the Windows Server 2022 ensures that the server receives continuous security updates that protect against new cyber threats. Additionally, the more recent versions of the Windows Server offer a range of enhanced security features, including improvements to encryption, firewalls, and access controls.
During the maintenance window, the Windows license activation may experience a brief service interruption during the KMS activation service migration.

Duo Security has identified the issue and applied fixes to restore services to full operational status. ITS will reinstate multi-factor authentication to all SF State accounts. Users will again be prompted with the Duo 2FA Authentication screen when logging into campus services.
