Degraded Connectivity Impacting Multiple Services Update (December 10, 2024)

Overview

The issue resulting in service interruptions to all external sources outside the University was traced to a CSU-wide internet backbone failure caused by a failed hardware upgrade by the CSU's internet provider, CENIC (Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California). The failure caused all Northern California traffic to route through Southern California and overwhelmed network resources for all CSU campuses. You can view CENIC’s status by clicking the following link:  https://cenic.org/status

ITS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as we learn more.

What Can You Expect

Users should notice improvements in connectivity to campus computing resources, including the Gateway, ServiceNow, and SF State websites.
